In the marketing materials specific claims are made concerning the production methods and product that must be followed as mandated by the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  Durham Natural Gold Beef™ is not a commodity product with Shorthorn influence; it is a specifically defined, branded beef product.  The intentions of the specifications are to design a more highly marketable, highly palatable, consumer-friendly beef product for users of Shorthorn genetics.
